Sheng-Hao Sun, a renowned designer, has created a stunning residential house called "A Rough Grey" that combines industrial design elements with a lofty-style aesthetic. Inspired by the owner's love for New York loft houses, this design stands out with its unique features and innovative approach.

One of the standout features of this design is the incorporation of a display case into the axe-cut stone wall behind the sofa. This concept brings in the stripes and lines of textiles and incorporates them with irregular scattered metal lines, reminiscent of the patterns found on fabric cloth. This design element adds a touch of sophistication and visual interest to the space.

The use of axe-cut stone wall gives the interior a hand-made feel, adding a timeless touch to the overall design. Additionally, the inclusion of glass bricks in the wall allows more natural light to flow into the kitchen area, continuing the gray scale coloring and echoing the industrial style throughout the house.

The open plan layout of the space, which includes the living room, dining room, study, and kitchen, creates a sense of spaciousness and connectivity. The balcony, equipped with electric floor-to-ceiling accordion folding windows, allows for an easy flow of light and air, creating a seamless connection between the interior and the outside world.

Creating this unique design came with its fair share of challenges. The designer had to search extensively for appropriate furniture and furnishings that would complement the overall design style. However, the effort and time invested in finding the perfect pieces paid off, resulting in a cohesive and visually stunning interior.

Designed and realized between February 2016 and June 2016 in Taipei, Taiwan, "A Rough Grey" is a testament to the designer's creativity and attention to detail. It has received recognition for its outstanding design, winning the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2017. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate ingenuity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.
